If the station lowered the amount of gasoline by 10% or 15%, there would be a line wrapped around the corner of that gas station. People would go out of their way to buy cheap gas. Total receipts and total revenue are determined by multiplying the price of the gas by the quantity sold. If the demand for a product is elastic, the amount consumer s buy will go up and the price will be lowered, but if inelastic, a lower price would mean a small increase in the quantity demanded. It would not be enough if sales increased. Substitutes and Compliments Gas cannot be substituted. For food, which is a good, can be substituted. If the price of fish and butter go up, buyers can switch to chicken and margarine. Small changes in the price of a product will cause people to switch from one product to the other. When quantity like this sells in a particular store or small store, the quantity changes drastically by the impact of store receipts, which tends to make the demand elastic. The more changes in substitutes the more elastic it becomes, the less substitutes for that particular product, the more inelastic the demand becomes. Serial murders and the people who commit them are often intriguing to the public. Everything about the killers personal life is considered interesting and it sparks a deep dive into their background. While the information may be interesting, it is also an important factor in their criminal career. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Serial Killers: The Motive" essay for you Create order Background information is a look into the makings of a serial killer. Everything from childhood neglect and abuse to race is considered when thinking of someones predisposition to murder. There are motives and characteristics that are found to be common among serial killers and it is best to know which ones to look for when analyzing a serial killer. Knowing which characteristics to look for would aid in profiling active and potential serial murderers. Having adequate and extensive profiles could potentially aid in solving past and current murders while also preventing new ones. Motivation and Serial Killers People often misunderstand a serial killers motive to kill. Also, many people do not understand what could provoke such actions. Motivation consists of the forces acting on or within an organism to initiate and direct behavior. (Petri,2015). Most serial killer motivation stems from the childhood and background. The characteristics of serial killers show similarities throughout many different case studies. Many serial killers had traumatizing childhood, where they were neglected, and experience difficult hardship during their younger years of life. Characteristics of a Serial Killer What is a serial killer? A serial killer is commonly defined as a person who has murdered more than three people on at least three separate occasions with a period of rest between kills. The exact number of serial killers all throughout history is not known, but the number estimates are as high as 1,500. A question commonly asked is why these murders occur. The reason this question is so common is due to the vast amount of serial killers and the cruel nature of the crimes. Discovering the reason why these serial killers kill has brought up many aspects of the killers background. Possible reasons why they commit those crimes have been thought to been biological reasons, though no one is born a serial killer (Iona,2013) and familial contributions. However, instead of asking why serial killers kill, we should be asking what most serial killers have in common. The reason why we should be asking that is, so we can determine who is more likely to become a serial killer. There are many aspe cts to look at when determining who has a predisposition to commit serial murder. There are several characteristics ranging from race and age to childhood experiences that can predetermine whether someone will become a serial killer. There have been almost 90 serial killers in the United States in the last 40 years and there are over 30 active serial killers at any given time. Looking at common traits that most serial killers share could be beneficial to help lower these numbers. Common Characteristics Childhood Occurrences as a Factor In the serial killer community there is more instance of childhood abuse than that of the general population. Abuse, which can be defined as the cruel treatment of humans or animals, is separated into several categories. Those categories are physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect. Mitchell and Aamodt (2005), conducted a study focused on 50 serial killers who had valid background information. Information about the childhood abuse of each killer was gathered from books, newspaper articles, and online sites. Abuse was broken down into the previously defined categories, physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect and was then compared to societal norms from 2001. All categories of abuse, excluding neglect was significantly higher in the serial killer population. For serial killers, the prevalence of physical abuse was 36% in comparison to the general population as was sexual abuse which was 26% and psychological abuse which was 50%. Neglect was equally prevalent in both the serial killer and societal norm populations at 18% each. In addition to suffering childhood abuse, bedwetting during childhood is common in serial killers. 60% of serial killers wet the bed well into their adolescent years (Miller, 2004). Wetting the bed past the age of 5 is seen as a humiliating act. Many of the parents of serial killers would belittle and demean them, causing even more humiliation. Despite the higher rates of adolescent bedwetting in serial killers, the bedwetting does not exactly mean that they will become a serial murderer. However, bedwetting past the usual age does correlate to violent acts against animals. Most serial killers have admitted to acting out their violent fantasies on animals (Simons,2001). Those violent acts are often ignored or missed by their parents, as most serial killers have dysfunctional backgrounds. During childhood many serial killers reported having negative fantasies. Most of their fantasies were about control and violation. Some had fantasies about mutilating their genitals and their own personal traumas repeatedly (Allely et al, 2014). They never discussed any of their fantasies, but they often thought of fulfilling their fantasies frequently. The violent childhood fantasies of the serial killers follow them into adulthood (Carlisle,1993). Before committing their first murder, their fantasies were centered around actually committing the murder, while after committing the first murder, they would focus on acting out the next murders with greater efficiency, no matter if the murders were committed in childhood or adulthood. Head injuries received during childhood are common within the serial killer community. 70% of serial killers had received head injuries during their childhood (Miller, 2014). These head injuries were the product of repeated physical abuse, accidents, or birth injuries. Head injuries can be linked to aggressive and violent behavior. Damage to the areas of the brain responsible for hormones, aggression, emotion, and motivation can cause spontaneous aggression. Gender, Race, and Age as biggest indictors Gender, age, and race of serial killers is very important. It is crucial to know what you are looking for and physical appearance is necessary knowledge. That knowledge can also help with narrowing down the motives, victims type, and murder methods of serial killers. Most serial killers are white males and most victims of serial killings are white females (Defronzo, 2004 2007). However contrary to popular belief minorities have higher rates of serial killing than one would think (Branson,2012). As stated previously, most serial killers are white with rates over 50%, while African-Americans have numbers just over 40%. Those numbers were just for the United States, but globally speaking they are not much different with white serial killers having numbers over 50% and African-Americans having numbers at 30% (Miller,2014). When comparing male to female serial killers there is a significant difference. Over 90% of all serial killers have been male, with less than 10% being female. (Miller, 2014) There is also a significant difference in the motives and victims between men and women serial killers. While males tend to murder victims unknown to them, females murder those who are close to them. Many female serial killer victims are men and then come children and the elderly, opposite of the victims of males. The motives of women are opposite of men as well. While men primarily commit serial murder for enjoyment purposes such as power and lust (Herrero et al,2017), women do it for financial gain, comfort, and revenge. The most popular type of female serial killer is the Black Widow, which is one who murders three or more husbands or lovers for financial gain (Wattis, 2016). The method in which female and male serial killers murder is also very different. Female serial killers tend to be very effective, while also using quieter and less messy methods than males (Bartels Parsons,2014). For many female serial killers, poison is the preferred method. Other methods such as shooting, stabbing, suffocation, and drowning are also found with female serial killers, although not as commonly. Male serial killers on the other hand generally use shooting as the murder method, with strangulation, stabbing, and bludgeoning coming in close. Even though shooting is the primary method for males, strangulation and stabbing are considered the most personal methods and it adds to their enjoyment of the kill. Serial killers are at their peak during their 20s and 30s. The average age of a serial killer, combining all races and genders, is 29. The average age at first kill is 28 for males and 30 for females. However, some serial killers acted out their first murder during childhood, while a few committed their first one over the age of 50 (Miller,2014). Characteristics in real cases Most, if not all these common serial killer characteristics can be applied to real life cases. Past serial killers have had several things in common and have been the basis for what to look for when searching for a serial murderer. Prime Examples Ted Bundy Ted Bundy was born in Burlington, Vermont on November 24, 1946, in a home for unwed mothers (Piel,2015). His mother was just a teen and his father were unknown. His maternal grandparents took on the role as his parents, while his mother posed as his sister. His grandfather was described as abusive with tyrant behavior. Despite this, Ted clung to his grandfather. His real mother moved him out of his grandparents house to Washington when he was 4 to get him away from her parents dysfunctional and abusive behavior. As a teen he reported being a loner and walking the streets looking for pornography or open windows, so he could spy on unsuspecting women. He confessed to having violent fantasies about controlling women and getting them to obey him. He also had a juvenile record for theft. Ted Bundys earliest confirmed killed occurred when he was 28. Bundy tended to prey on young women in college who tended to be attractive, starting in Washington, then in Utah, Colorado, and finally Florida. Bundy would lure these women in under false pretenses, often pretending to be an injured man sporting a sling for in his arm or cast for his leg. He would convince them to help carry his books or unload items from his car. Once they got to his car he would hit them over the head with a pipe or crowbar. Bundy was able to rape then murder a confirmed number of 30 women (Piel, 2015). He primarily strangled or bludgeoned his victims before mutilating them postmortem. He prolonged his acts by going back to see his victims at their dump sites or even taking them home in order to gain further sexual enjoyment. In some cases, he even displayed the victims decapitated heads in his apartment and slept with their corpses until the smell made it insufferable. Bundy had many of the common characteristics of serial killers. He was raised in an abusive home as a child and he had violent fantasies. He was a white male, which makes up many serial killers, and he committed his first murder at 28, which is the average age for such. All his victims were white females, which is the most common victim type. His motive for killing was enjoyment, which is the primary motive among males. He preferred to murder his victims by strangulation or bludgeoning, common male serial killer practices. In conclusion, there are several characteristics that can indicate a serial killer. While some characteristics are found to be more common, they are all still important. It is best to investigate childhood occurrences when profiling active and current serial killers as it would be vital to gather background information about a potential serial killer. When profiling potential serial killers, accessing the characteristics and their backgrounds can be vital to solving current and future serial murders.

Macroeconomics and its study with relevance to china Free Essays
Summary In accordance to the formulation of latest economic data juxtaposed with macroeconomic principals and theories it can be stated that at the start of 2006, the Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China officially proclaimed itself as the fourth largest economy, determined by USD-exchange rate leaving behind France and the United Kingdom. The Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China has an economy, which is graded as the fourth largest economy in the world, when measured by nominal GDP. According to the records of 2005, about 70% of Chinaââ¬â¢s GDP is in the private sector. We will write a custom essay sample on Macroeconomics and its study with relevance to china or any similar topic only for you Order Now Introduction According to The Star Business, it is estimated by the financial specialists of Pricewaterhouse Coopers that, ââ¬Å"China could overtake the United States by 2025 to be the worldââ¬â¢s largest economy and is anticipated to grow to about 130% the size of the United States by 2050â⬠.[1] (The Star, 2008) it can well be stated that the basis of this statement is completely dependent on the microeconomic theories related to finance and particularly the quantity theory of money. In general, it can be stated that Macroeconomics is a subdivision of economics that has its transactions with the behavior, structure and performance in terms of regional or national economy. Aggregated indicators price indices, unemployment rates and GDP are the prime factors of this subject along with several other variables such as international finance, international trade, investment, savings, inflation, unemployment, consumption, output and national income. The current article analyzes the trends of Chinese finance market and applies the quantity theory of money and the momentum or velocity of its circulation in Chinese market and beyond. The equation of exchange i.e. M. V=P.Y is applied in this case to yield the forecast. In accordance to the formulation it can be stated that Chinaââ¬â¢s National Bureau of Statistics in December 2005 recalculated its 2004 nominal GDP raised by 16.8% or Rmb2, 336.3 billion (US$281.9 billion), making China the 6th largest economy in the world, leave behind Italy, with a GDP of almost $2 trillion USD. At the start of 2006, the Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China officially proclaimed itself as the fourth largest economy, determined by USD-exchange rate leaving behind France and the United Kingdom. (Edelman, 2005) Discussion At the beginning of 2006 China arises as the second largest economy in the world determined by domestic PPP (purchasing power) measure, at about $10 trillion USD, although such approximation must be taken with a great deal of warn as PPP estimation is very vague, more than ever in a huge country like China, Chinese acquiring capacity varies radically between Shanghai and Sichuan, and PPP is immaterial for imported products and overseas acquisitions. By the end of 2008, China foresee (determined by exchange rate) to go beyond Germany as the third largest economy, and to overtake Japan by the year 2015. (IMF, 2007) Thus, it is certain that China is fast becoming a global super power, at least economically as the quantity theory of money suggests and as calculated by the financial specialists of Pricewaterhouse based on this theory. The Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China has an economy, which is graded as the fourth largest economy in the world, when measured by nominal GDP. Its cost-effective productivity for 2006 was $2.68 trillion USD.à Its per capita GDP is rising rapidly. According to the records of 2005, about 70% of Chinaââ¬â¢s GDP is in the private sector. The less significant public sector is occupied by about two hundred large state enterprises concerted mainly in utilities, energy resources, and heavy industries. Since 1978 the Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China (PRC) government has been restructuring its economy from a Soviet-style centrally planned economy, where the state or government have the sole power over the issue of production and takes all decisions about their utilization and about the dissemination of income, to a new market-oriented economy, in which the manufacture and dissemination of goods and services is done through the system of free markets directed by a gratis price system. Within the political skeleton, given by the Communist Party of China this economic system has been termed as Socialism with Chinese characteristics and is a category of mixed economy. Since 1978 after the implementation of these reforms, millions of people have been elevated out of poverty, bringing down the poverty rate from 53% of populace in 1981 to 8% by 2001. (Kar, 2006)Thus it is clearly seen that the velocity of money is fast gaining momentum and when the equation of M. V=P.Y is applied it is clear that growth is tangible and constant. The record of Chinaââ¬â¢s progress over the past two decades has demonstrated naysayer wrong and optimists not positive enough. Upon close assessment, Chinaââ¬â¢s record loses some of its sheen. Chinaââ¬â¢s economic presentation since 1979, for example, is in fact less imposing than that of its East Asian competitors. Regardless of Chinaââ¬â¢s distinguished economic progress, its per capita and total GDP growth has been over taken by some nations. From 1999 to 2006, Russiaââ¬â¢s minimal per capita GDP increased from $1334 to $6879 (515 percent), while that in Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic China increased from $870 to $2000 (229 percent). Similarly impressive are some oil producing nations of Middle Eastern, such as Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Brunei. Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Angola had outpaced China in utilizing huge energy coffers in the same time. On the other hand, Equatorial Guinea, an African country recorded 79% percent real GDP augmentation in 2004. Even some countries in Asia such as Vietnam have made GDP triple between 1999 and 2006 in ostensible per capita dollar basis, astonishingly more than China. The strength of overall economy is a major determinant of political significance in the present time and China is doing quite well in this prospect. (King, 2006) In adjunct, it must be kept in mind that per capita income in absolute dollars (not percentage) GDP per capita is ascending much rapidly in most of the developed nations of the world than China, on account of Chinaââ¬â¢s very low foundation ofà income. The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party a short time ago permitted the draft for the 11th 5-year plan for 2006 ââ¬â 2010. The plan is intended to achieve a comparatively conventional 45% increase in GDP and 20% decline in energy intensity by 2010. Intriguingly enough, due to its vast population, Chinaââ¬â¢s per capita share of world GDP can by no means accomplish the levels of the USA or Japan or some European countries in the 1990ââ¬â¢s by economic progress alone. Avowed in another way, an average Chinese can never posses the same comparative economic power that possessed by average Americans, Western Europeans, and some Japanese in 1990ââ¬â¢s. This is demonstrated as Japan had 20% of world GDP in April 1995, with not more than 2% of its population. (Lamb, 2004) Conclusion As China contains approximately 20% of the worldââ¬â¢s population, it would require 200% of world GDP to compete with Japanââ¬â¢s level by this evaluation in April 1995, which is next to impossible. Chinaââ¬â¢s share of total population of the world would have to reduce in size to well below 10% for this to happen. (Fletcher, 2005) Thus, it is quite clear that microeconomic theories like the quantity theory of money is very relevant in the modern context of financial analysis and forecast and the formulation of the national and economic variables are always dependable. Thus, it is obvious that economic commentaries or economic reports, like the one by The Star, can always be used for the fundamental understanding of macroeconomics and its principals. Last Lecture free essay sample
LectureLast Lecture Donââ¬â¢t judge a book by its cover. You hear that expression all the time. However, it couldnââ¬â¢t be applied greater than the book titled, ââ¬Å"The Last Lectureâ⬠by Randy Pausch. When I first looked at the book, I expected to encounter a story filled with nothing but sadness. However, after reading this National Bestseller, I found that I had discovered a tale of life. ââ¬Å"The Last Lectureâ⬠documents the life of Randy Pausch in the form of short stories that exemplified the kind of man he lived as. Pauschââ¬â¢s ability to share those stories on paper with the world was quite impressive. His story-telling ability was perhaps the most positive aspect of the book. Each ââ¬Å"mini-lessonâ⬠consisted of an attention grabbing opening, much like we are required to do in this book review (hopefully I have succeeded). For example, ââ¬Å"Weve placed a lot of emphasis in this country on the idea of peoples rights. We will write a custom essay sample on Last Lecture or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Thats how it should be, but it makes no sense to talk about rights without also talking about responsibilitiesâ⬠. Having a sentence that is quite plain and simple but at the same time extremely thought provoking helped to pull me into every chapter. After an attention grabbing opening, Pausch continued to draw us in with tales of humor and light mischief. Although some of his stories deviated off topic, every detail enhanced the end result of the lesson learned. Ultimately, Mr. Pausch chose to write and present his ââ¬Å"last lectureâ⬠for his children. The book was extremely positive despite the fact that the man writing it knew that he had very little time left to live. At the end of each short story, Pausch summed up the series of events that it consisted of and left us with a lesson learned in couple sentences. Those couple sentence at the end of each chapter proved to hold much more value than their length, however. Pausch left us with this at the end of one story, ââ¬Å" No job is beneath you. You ought to be thrilled you got a job in the mailroom. And when you get there, heres what you do: Be really great at sorting mailâ⬠It is no mystery from the very beginning that Randy Pausch is dying of cancer. As a matter of fact, he tells us right away that he has only months to live. The author does not probe for emotional appeal with his diagnosis. Cancer is noted only when the author is concerned for the future of his family. I cannot recall a time in the book when he feels sorry for himself. His impending death is the reason for his writing of a last lecture, and I find it quite amazing how at peace he is with this. The beginning of the story consists mostly of Pauschââ¬â¢s professional life. He is a remarkable man in every respect, but his academic ability must be noted. Randy Pausch chose to become a university professor even though many other options awaited him. At one point in the story a man asked him what the key was to success. Pausch countered by asking the man to call him on his office phone at 10:30 Friday night and then he would reveal his answer. Ha! I love it. We learn a lot about Randyââ¬â¢s life through short-stories in the first part of the book. The story then progresses to where Randy meets his future wife, Jai. The two go through a unique experience before committing to each other. And their marriage almost only lasts one day! But I will allow you to read to find out the details. The remainder of the story focuses on Pauschââ¬â¢s love for his wife and children, including the happiness, sadness, successes, and trying times that they have and are currently facing. There are simply too many short stories to share in this book review; youââ¬â¢ll have to read yourself. But let me assure you, youââ¬â¢ll laugh, cry, and come away a better person if you do. If you asked me what Randy Pausch is trying to convey in his last lecture, I would simply say that success is not about the number of days that you live on this earth, it is about the quality of each day. It is also not about the number of breaths you take, but the number of breaths that take your breath away. Pardon the cliche. Randy Pausch demonstrates an amazing understanding of how to be happy in life. I would recommend this book to readers of age 16 and older, just because personally I feel that before 16 years old I would not have appreciated the bookââ¬â¢s content. It is an amazing tale of a man that overcame death: not physically, but spiritually. I will leave you with these words from Randy Pausch, ââ¬Å"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the handââ¬

A Dolls House - 1973 Production with Claire Bloom
A Doll's House - 1973 Production with Claire Bloom The Bottom Line This treatment of Henrik Ibsens play, A Dollsà House, by director Patrick Garland and actors Claire Bloom and Anthony Hopkins, is especially strong. Garland manages to transcend the plot contrivances which I found, on reading Henrik Ibsens play, to make the story almost unbelievable, and instead, create characters and a story that seem real. A surprisingly hopeful film to enjoy for itself, this would also make an interesting film to use in high school, college, or adult classes to explore issues of gender roles and expectations. I remember the first time I read Henrik Ibsens play, A Dolls House, in the late 1960s, just when the feminist movement was rediscovering past literary treatments of gender roles. Betty Friedans more straightforward treatment of the ultimately-unsatisfying constrictions of womens traditional role seemed to ring more true. In reading A Dolls House then, I was disturbed by what I read as contrived characters Nora always seemed quite the silly doll, even after her transformation. And her husband! What a shallow man! He didnt evoke the least bit of sympathy in me. But Claire Bloom and Anthony Hopkins, in director Patrick Garlands 1973 treatment, show how good acting and direction can add to a play what a dry reading cannot.

3 Types of Headings
3 Types of Headings 3 Types of Headings 3 Types of Headings By Mark Nichol Headings are second-generation headlines, words or phrases that introduce sections of a piece of content and thus help a writer organize the content into smaller components. This post describes three categories of headings and their functions. 1. Question Headings A question heading, as you might have guessed, is a heading in the interrogative case. A question heading like ââ¬Å"How Do Widgets Make Your Job Easier?â⬠directs a readerââ¬â¢s attention because it implies that the text that follows the heading will answer that question. Question headings are useful in content that serves as an informational resource, such as an instructional procedure, a troubleshooting guide, or a websiteââ¬â¢s FAQ (frequently asked questions) page. But they can also serve to organize more qualitative information intended to expand readersââ¬â¢ knowledge, such as headings that ask the difference between various political systems, religions, or philosophies. 2. Statement Headings Statement headings are those that include a noun and a verb, forming a complete thought. Newspaper headlines are the model for this form: ââ¬Å"Widgets Make Your Job Easierâ⬠is an example of a statement heading. Statement headings are ideal for straightforward content when question headings arenââ¬â¢t appropriate or desired. They express a fact or an opinion, and they signal that the content following them will provide details that support that fact or argue that opinion. 3. Topic Heading A topic heading consists of a single word or a short (or not-so-short) phrase that serves as a label identifying the topic of the content that follows: Sample topic headings include ââ¬Å"Widgets,â⬠ââ¬Å"Benefits of Widgets,â⬠and ââ¬Å"How to Use Widgets to Make Your Job Easier.â⬠Topic headings can introduce functional content, but theyââ¬â¢re the type of heading best suited for leisure reading content intended to entertain rather than inform. Topic headings can be the most challenging to write because they donââ¬â¢t necessarily provide much information. The first two examples, above, for instance, arenââ¬â¢t very specific; only the third one matches the sample question and statement headings for utility. Topic headings do invite more creativity, including wordplay and alliteration, but ââ¬Å"Workout Widgetsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Widgets and Gadgets,â⬠for example, might require more context, like an image, or a transitional sentence at the end of the previous section, to be of much use. Also, note that the more conceptual a topic heading is, the less likely it is to support an online search, because it probably includes fewer keywords than an equivalent heading formatted according to one of the other heading styles. Such high pressure is needed to provide the propelling force of the gas and to reduce the volume of the gas being transported. ... This is achieved by putting a given quantity of a solid into appropriate conditions that result in solid/fluid mixture to have properties of a fluid. The relationship developed to predict the minimum fluidizing velocity is mainly based on experimental work, despite the fact that many of its important applications is in high temperature locations. According to the tests to show the relationship between fluidization over a range of given temperature, there is a marked discrepancy between prediction and the value of the measured velocity when physical properties values are used appropriating the operating conditions. There is a relationship between the pressure drop across the fluidized bed and buoyant weight per unit area in that the pressure drops is approximately equal to buoyant weight per unit area. There are two approaches in describing these two phenomena in which one considers the process of sedimentation occurring due to dense packing and the other considers the general velocit y of the particles. For either consideration, bed voidage is necessary at minimum fluidization. Voidage refers to the function to the particle distribution, particle size and particle shape. The voidage reduces with an increasing size distribution. Also, the operating temperature relates to the voidage in that as the bed voidage increases, there is a significant increase in operating temperature. During the experiment, the hot fluidized bed is contained in a 188 mm diameter stainless steel cylinder. The fluidization gas is then introduced into the bed through stainless steel distributor plates having a diameter of 0.5 and 1.0 mm drilled holes on a 6 mm 6 mm square pitch
